Additional vehicle licensing, cash offices opened, online services recommended

The City of Cape Town has opened additional customer cash and motor vehicle registration and licence (MVRL) offices in Fezeka and Goodwood. The City is opening its offices in a phased manner and will communicate as the offices re-open, however the use of online options remain key in helping to curb the spread of COVID-19. It must be emphasised that customer offices are working on a reduced staff complement to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations. Customers are therefore also encouraged to make use of the grace period for licences.

The City has opened some of its customer offices in a phased manner since May this year, in accordance with national COVID-19 regulations. All of the City’s MVRL offices have now been re-opened. We will continue to ensure that all COVID-19 health and safety protocols are in place and adhered to for the safety of City staff and members of the public as additional offices are opened. We thank our customers for their patience during this difficult time.

Customers are reminded to only visit offices when necessary so that we continue to curb the spread of COVID-19. Online options and the City’s e-Services remain key and we encourage customers to register to use e-Services if they have not done so already. Customers will be able to complete a number of transactions including electronic billing, logging service requests and applying to renew one’s motor vehicle licence, among others.

The national COVID-19 regulations, which require a reduced staff complement, mean fewer transactions can be done per day. All counters will not be open at the same time to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations of enhanced hygiene and social distancing. Customers are asked to please visit offices early in the day or to make use of online services where possible. Check the Operations and Service Notifications document on the City’s website or the City’s social media pages ahead of time if unsure. Offices are also subject to rapid closure due to COVID-19 regulations when required.

If transactions can be conducted via e-Services, please continue to do so.

Motorists who applied before 26 March 2020 and meet all the requirements will still receive their discs. The South African postal service has resumed but please be patient as they work through backlogs
